On Friday, Japan launched the seventh radioactive wastewater dump from the rugged Fukushima Dashii nuclear plant in the Pacific Ocean.

Despite the opposition of fishermen and local residents, as well as the negative reaction of the international community, the Tokyo Power Company (TEPCO), the plant’s operator, began to release radioactive wastewater during the morning, This is the third round of fiscal year 2024.
Until 16 July, as in previous rounds, about 7,800 tons of sewage will be discharged from approximately one kilometer offshore off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture through an underwater tunnel.
According to TEPCO, the company will begin dismantling the empty storage tanks after waste water has been discharged around January of next year.
There are approximately one thousand storage tanks at the Fukushima plant due to their continuous production of sewage, which are to be released.
Despite strong opposition, both inside Japan and outside, the dumping of radioactive waste water from Fukushima into the ocean began in August 2023. In fiscal year 2024, TEPCO plans to discharge a total of 54,600 tons of radioactive water in seven rounds, with approximately 14 billion tritium becquerels.
According to anti-nuclear activists in the country of the rising sun, there is still uncertainty regarding the final dismantling of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, as well as not having a clear plan for the treatment of radioactive waters.
It should be recalled that the discharged waters were used to treat the nuclear accident at the aforementioned Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, which was hit by an earthquake of 9.0 magnitude and a subsequent tsunami on 11 March 2011, the Fukushima nuclear plant underwent core fusions that released radiation, resulting in a level 7 nuclear accident, the highest on the International Scale of Nuclear and Radiological Events.
